A good friend had a really bad experience with the Wise County Animal Shelter I'm afraid. The "neighborhood" dog was picked up and she went up there to get it after only a few days (I mean like 3 or 4 tops) They told her she would have to wait a few minutes before they could look for him. During that "few minutes" the dog was euthanized! with her waiting to get it. She was so upset by the whole that she she still hasn't gotten over it.

She had been told on the phone that there was no danger of the dog being euthanized that day the whole thing was disgusting. I swear I think she even saw it's corpse as she was leaving. I would have to talk to her to get all the details again. But it was absolutely awful and she still gets depressed over it several years later.
